Please provide the following data relating to private landlords in your council, covering the period from 1 January 2022 to the date of this request in 2025:

1. The total number of formal complaints received about private tenancies and landlords, broken down by calendar year (2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 to date).

2. The total number of prosecutions brought against private landlords, broken down by calendar year.

3. The total number of civil penalty notices issued against private landlords, broken down by calendar year.

4. The total sum of fines issued to private landlords, broken down by calendar year and what type of fine (civil penalty, prosecution fines issued by courts etc)

5. The total number of banning orders issued against private landlords, broken down by calendar year.

To assist with question 1, examples of the types of complaints I am referring to include (but are not limited to):

  • Disrepair Poor Management (including HMOs)
  • Means of Escape (HMOs)
  • Overcrowding (HMO or otherwise)
  • Disconnection of Services
  • Unfitness
  • Statutory Nuisance
  • Filthy/Verminous Premises

  • HMO Selective Licensing – Unlicensed
  • Selective Licensing – Breach of Conditions
  • Bypassed Meters
  • Housing – Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards
