Coast Protection
Who is responsible for the coastline?
The Department of The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is responsible for the protection of the UK coastline from flooding and erosion.
Coastal Defence is a term that covers:
- Coastal Protection: the protection of the coast from erosion - work carried out by Dover District Council
- Flood Defence: the protection from flooding by the sea - construction and maintenance carried out by the Environment Agency.
